Radon Testing After Mitigation: What Pennsylvania Law Requires
In Pennsylvania, the company that installs a radon system must make sure your home is tested afterwards. PA DEP says the test must be done within 30 days of the install, but no sooner than 24 hours after the system is running, and the rules say it must last at least 48 hours. DEP also recommends an independent follow-up test, by an independent tester or by you, so there's no conflict of interest. Read the rule (25 Pa. Code § 240.303)
System Goes In
The company fits the pipe and fan and switches the system on.
Test Within 30 Days
No sooner than 24 hours after the system is on. Your installer arranges the test, or you book an independent certified tester.
Check Your Result
Compare your number with EPA's levels above. If it's still 4.0 or higher, talk to your installer.
How to Choose a Radon Mitigation Company in York, PA
Check their PA DEP certification, whether they've worked on homes like yours, their reviews, their guarantee and warranty, how they handle the test after the install, and where they'll put the pipe and fan. Not every company does the job the same way, so it's worth comparing a few.
PA DEP Certification
Make sure they're certified by the state for mitigation, not only testing. Every listing shows each certification and its number.

Guarantee and Warranty
Ask what result they promise and how long the system and fan are covered.
Retest After Install
